Wish granting for foster children has become a new focus for Angels for Foster Kids organization.
Apollo Beach, Fl., /MediaQuire/ -- Angels for Foster Kids, (AngelsforFosterKids.org) announced their new focus today; wish granting for foster children including those who are aging out of the system, and kinship care situations. AFK’s mini-grant program is designed to provide children in foster care with items such as clothes, toys, computers, books and funding for summer camps, tutoring and the ability to play on a sports team all that can help improve their quality of life.
“Childhood should be a carefree, happy time, but for children in foster care this is often not the case. These children are burdened with painful memories and feelings of loss and betrayal,” says AFK founder Margaret Iuculano. She ought to know, she lived in 12 different foster homes throughout her teenage years. Margaret adds, “depression and low self-esteem factor heavily into their lives as foster kids. Our DreamMakers program allows these children to take advantage of opportunities that boost self-esteem, enrich their lives, and promote feelings of belonging.”
State funds are distributed to foster parents, grandparents and group homes, cover many of the expenses of caring for the children placed in their homes, but the costs involved in caring for children with unique needs add up quickly. These funds are rapidly absorbed, and there are rarely funds left over to cover the little extras or discretionary activities that all children deserve. Angels for Foster Kids’ DreamMaker program will serve to give these kids just a little more. The program is designed to grant modest wishes or help subsidize a larger wish for children in our child welfare system.
Angels for Foster Kids looks forward to facilitating the highest quality of services to the community which we serve. Our organization seeks to uplift these children to the best quality of life that can be achieved with the resources that are available. Our organization’s programs are staffed by qualified individuals, who have expertise in child advocacy and case management. Together with the board of directors, the Executive Director of the organization will oversee all staff and client interaction, while continuously employing her years of training and experience. Overall, the organization aspires to reduce the challenges faced by disadvantaged, at-risk individuals in the foster care system.
“To fulfill a wish for a child please send an email with your request, we currently fulfill wishes on a first come, first serve basis,” says Margaret Iuculano, Founder of AFK.
