Meet Gail Kearns. She will be providing us with exciting knowledge about the publishing world. Whether you have an idea for a book or if you have just finished writing your book, Gail's knowledge and experience will be invaluable.
I'm a Book Sherpa and a protégé of Dan Poynter’s, the guru of self-publishing. I come from a film background, where everyone had a script under his or her arm. During my stint in the business as a story editor I read many scripts too numerous to count. I was the first in Hollywood to read Groundhog Day and I saw it right away as a potential film. The company I worked for passed on it but as you know it got to the big screen and became a hit.
Now I'm in the book business and everyone I meet has a book manuscript under their arm (or in their head). Kudos to you! I'm here to guide you through the process of self-publishing ... or at least get you on track to find the publisher of your dreams. Not everyone wants to self-publish and I understand that perfectly.
If you have book inside you, stay tuned because there's lots of knowledge you’ll gain from reading this blog. The first step is to start building your platform long before your book is published. I'll be giving tips on that in a future blog. Here are seven additional key topics you can look forward to reading.
1. Why you need a professional editor
2. The importance of a dynamic cover design
3. Print or e-book
4. The ins and outs of print on demand (POD)
5. Getting set up in the book trade
6. Essentials of a dynamite book proposal
7. Book promotion in motion
Thanks for reading! I welcome your comments and input.
